Already as a young girl Shany Mathew had set the foundation for her career as a classical Indian dancer by learning to play the violin, taking classes in ballet and apparatus gymnastics. At the age of thirteen she appropriated the basic steps of the Indian dance under the guidance of Alexandra Romanova. Because of her abilities and her interest the young talent was furthermore supported with lessons from one of the most talented young dance masters of southindia, Kalaprathiba Girishkumar. Having yearly courses at Nisari Kalakshetra, Trissur she qualified to be a master student in the classical dance styles Bharata Natyam, Kuchipudi and Mohini Attam.

In 1997 Shany Mathew, accompanied by her guru and musicians from Kerala Kalamandalam, celebrated her dance-debut in Germany, which was followed by a successful Germany-tour. She was awarded with the first place for Bharata Natyam in several competitions. Up to now she has had the honour to perform indian classical dances on over 500 occasions which was often honoured with standing ovations.

Characteristically for the dancer Shany Mathew is her graceful movement, her precise dance technique and her thrilling expressiveness which she presents the stories of the Indian mythology with.
